About Us

Welcome to the online home of Braveheart Dog Services....we’re glad you’ve found us! Serving the Halifax area (and beyond!), our energy and professionalism has earned us a strong reputation. We offer a range of walking and training services that will be sure to meet both you and your dogs needs.

We have a knowledge and passion for dogs that we bring to all our clients. Hopefully you’ll choose to have your dog become an important part of our journey, and you can start to reap the benefits of having Braveheart Dog Services present in your dog's life.

About myself....

Hello, I’m Alistair, the founder of Braveheart Dog Services. Born and raised in Glasgow, Scotland, I’m now firmly settled here in Halifax. My family are delighted to be living in such special place. Especially our dog, Nevis. He is a rather energetic German Shorthaired Pointer that just loves ripping around the many green spaces we are fortunate to have on our doorsteps.

The ethos of Braveheart Dog Services....

Braveheart Dog Services will provide a professional service. We hope our straightforward and simple approach is well received. Our clients have enough complexity to deal with at home and work, so we’ll endeavour to keep our interface with your life as simple as possible. Give us a call and you’ll hopefully find this to be true!

Our aim is to provide a service that meets you, and your dog's needs. Braveheart Dog Services hopes to impact our clients (the humans, but even more so the dogs!) in only a positive manner.

You are telling us!

F.A.Q.

The listed services are a summary of our most regular requests. We are happy to discuss and can tailor to suit exactly what you need. Don’t be shy, just give us a call!
This is a very normal circumstance for most of our clients. The work arounds are numerous, although entirely up to you and what you are comfortable with. Regular clients often supply Braveheart Dog Services with a spare key to hold (we are very professional with our key care!), others “stash” a key in a secret spot and tell us the location, some have a lock box and share the combination, some have an at home neighbour and we ring for the key at pick up time. We will need access to your pooch, although how you decide to provide that access is your choice entirely. Braveheart Dog Services appreciates that your home and your dog are dear and special. We maintain an absolutely professional approach to both. We need you to be comfortable and trusting in the method of access you choose.
Hopefully in a relatively short time frame Braveheart Dog Services won’t feel like a stranger anymore! Braveheart Dog Services understands this feeling. For the majority of our clients, we access their home with only their dog present. We conduct ourselves with absolute professionalism whilst within the homes of our clients, and only access them in line with what has been agreed. It is your home, and any requests will be strictly adhered to.
Trust is hard earned and easy lost! Becoming a valued client of Braveheart Dog Services will give me the opportunity I need to earn your trust. With time I am sure I will deservedly do just that. Initially (as a reassurance to bridge the gap until your trust has been earned) I can provide copies of recent Criminal Record checks, and the contact details of references that are local to the Halifax area. Alternatively, if you prefer to do your own homework our social media pages showcase much of our work. I operate with transparency as I am proud of my conduct. It won’t take much digging for you to connect with any number of my clients through the wonders of FaceBook or Instagram. Rest assured, my conduct within the homes and with the pets of my clients is the foundation of my business - I take it very seriously.
Before a first walk, we will need to see you (the dog owner), for a brief chat. This is a very simple process and won’t take much of your time. From our end, there is a very simple form to review and sign off on (if you are in agreement with its contents). We call this our Service Agreement. From your end you can ask and clarify on any queries you might have. Essentially this chat (initial consult) should ensure you are understanding what Braveheart Dog Services will be providing, and that this meets your expectations.
We ask that your dog has his own collar and leash. Beyond that we will supply the necessaries for our walks including treats, toys, and poop bags. Dietary requirements will be discussed with our new clients, and we will only share our treats with those dogs that are on our treat list.
Note that this discusses our Trail Run, which is not to be confused with our more inclusive Off-leash Group Walk. For puppies under 1 year, Braveheart Dog Services would advise making a quick call to your vet to ensure suitability for their breed specific development. The “standard” group is a pretty fast paced squad, however we are more than happy to discuss and assess your pooch for suitability.
We like to keep things simple, so a phone call is always welcome! If we don’t answer, it will most likely be because we are tending to our dogs - so leave a message and we’ll get back to you. Additionally, we monitor our email and all social media pages daily. We can even cope with text messages! Our aim is to respond to any enquires within 24hrs.
We don’t live DT Hali either, and our dog walks take place in many different areas. Please make your enquiry and we will see what we can work out for your location.
We’re not hurt by this lack of trust....honest we’re not! (sniff) Braveheart Dog Services does what they do so well because we enjoy it. We won’t be cutting any dog short, because that would be cutting ourselves short. In addition, at your request we can provide time stamped GPS routes post walking services.
Dogs are located within a secure area inside our SUV. With our heating on in the winter and air con in the summer, rest assured your dog will travel in the same 20°C as the driver.
Braveheart Dog Services conscientiously assesses all enlisted dogs. This assessment occurs before any new dog is deemed suitable for Group Services, and is ongoing throughout all our interactions with our dogs. Known aggressive dogs will not be permitted to take part in our Group Services.
Our boarding scenario is incomparable to that of a high volume kennel. Only one dog will be boarded at any time, therefore your dog will be centre of attention. Your dog will be a Braveheart Dog during his stay, and will spend his days hiking along lakes and through woods as a part of our regular Group Walk schedule. Home time will be home time - there is no external kennelling. Your dog will relax with my family, eat with my family, and sleep as he pleases with my family.
References specific to this service are available on request
I’m often asked why I chose to found our business under the name Braveheart Dog Services. The distinctive part of our name - Braveheart - was quite easy. Firstly, it has cheesy connotations with my home Scotland. Hopefully this association will help you remember and recognise our business. Don’t worry, I won’t be walking your dog in a Kilt with a toy sword stuffed down my belt! Secondly, it has personal relevance as a “salute” to my son and all the other little heart warriors. My son, Campbell, had open heart surgery as an infant!
